When someone mentions the words “estate planning”, people automatically assumes that it is only necessary for the wealthy and those of privilege. However, there are times when the average middle-class worker with a small estate wishes to see their hard earned money go to their intended heirs. These folks should have their wishes fulfilled just as much as the individual with a sizeable estate. Whether it be a simple will or power of attorney, Andy is up to task. More than anything, Andy wants to see that in death, as in life, the client should have dignity.

Prior to opening his solo practice in Sacramento, California, Andy was a partner at the Law Offices of Murphy, Vu, Thongsamouth & Chatterjee, LLP, in Oakland, California, where he specialized in all aspects of elder law and probate including estate planning, wills and trusts, conservatorship, guardianship, probate administration, trust administration, and Medi-Cal (Long-term care) planning. Before that, Andy was an associate attorney at the Law Offices of Kato, Feder & Suzuki, LLP, in San Francisco, California, where he spent more than six years honing his craft. Andy has also served on a panel of court appointed attorneys for proposed conservatees in the Superior Court of San Francisco for close to a decade.

Andy began his legal career as a staff attorney at Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach (formerly Nihonmachi Legal Outreach), a non-profit organization that provided legal services to clients throughout the greater Bay Area. Andy assisted and represented clients with family law, immigration and elder law issues. The clients were primarily low-income individuals from underserved communities including many who were victims of domestic violence and those from immigrant populations. From his humble beginnings as a public interest attorney, Andy continues to firmly believe that all clients deserve excellent legal representation regardless of their wealth, class or nationalities. Andy continues to be active in his community and currently sits on the board of several community organizations. He also volunteers regularly at legal clinics held in Oakland, San Jose and San Francisco.

Andy obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco – School of Law in 1999. Andy obtained his undergraduate degree in History from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1996. When not working, Andy enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters – Amanda and Natalie – and son, Liem.
